Sleep better + Feel better
To end a week of Black Friday madness, Cardea scheduled a trip to Make Lemonade for a Sleep Better Meditation Session hosted by The Quiet Company. This super comfy session introduced breath work techniques, intention setting and a guided meditation practice of Yoga Nidra, all which promote relaxation. This was a perfect way to unwind after a long day and start a nightly ritual that changes the way our head hits the pillow. As you know, us girls at Cardea HQ are big fans of our rituals!
First, to set the scene! Make Lemonade is a cute work space decorated in a multitude of cute things, but mostly amazing energy that empowers the women of the world who just want to get sh*t done. Their faux lawn lounge was set with blankets, pillows and Flow water, here is where we unrolled our mats in typical yoga fashion and meditated.
The coolest part (okay, it was all cool) was when The Quiet Company introduced Yin and Yang breathing. We did this by placing our index finger under our nose and feeling which nostril we were breathing out of. To give you the ultra-short version of this one nostril is always more dominate than the other, and this switches every 90 minutes. When breathing through the right nostril you are tapped into a more energetic state of mine, whereas the left is calming and relaxed. Using this technique throughout the day will help you feel that wave of energy and be mindful of where your breath is coming from.
Another helpful tip to get your butt ready for bed is using the meditation practice of Yoga Nidra. This is a guided meditation of verbal instructions to bring your mind inward, becoming consciously aware of the deep sleep state. Honestly, I think I fell asleep during part of it, which is normal. Yoga Nidra can be used before bed to prep your mind and breath for a rejuvenating sleep, or use it as a way to reset your breath when you’re feeling withdrawn or heavy. Yoga Nidra is basically napping without *actually* napping.
Of course, these are a few things that The Quiet Company went over. There are lots of ways to prep yourself for bed, some as easy as un-plugging from the social network and moving your nightly charge session to the other side of the room. Dim the screen on your laptop during Netflix and chill and change the lighting in your room. All these simple steps will prep your mind and body for a rejuvenating sleep, you might even forget the snooze button in the morning.
Happy Sleeping Goddesses :)
